This is the translation of a discourse given by Corbin in the early
1950s just prior to the publication of his edition with Muhammad Mo'in
of Ruzbehan Baqli's *Book of the Jasmine of the Lovers Regarding the
Stations of Love* (kitab abhar al-ashiqin fi ahwal al-'ishq) as part
of the Bibliotheque Iranienne series.
Ruzbehan Baqli is perhaps one of the most important figures of
12th-13th century Iranian Sufism and his spirituality is extremely
ecstatic, visionary and psychedelic. Corbin translates a few of his
visions as detailed in his personal spiritual diary. I have translated
sections of his *Jasmine of the Lovers* in the past. He lived in
Shiraz and the order he founded, the Ruzbehaniya (which only lasted no
more than 300 years), is linked directly to the poet Hafiz -- which in
effect makes Ruzbehan the master (pir/murshid) of Hafiz. Ruzbehan is
especially noted for being a proponent of the worship of beauty (jamal
parasti).
