PROCLAMATION OF MASON REMEY TO THE BAHA'I WORLD AT RIDVAN 1960, setting
forth his rightful claim to the Guardianship on the basis of his appointment
by Shoghi Effendi in strict compliance with the terms of the Will and
Testament of 'Abdu'l-Baha.

EXTRACT:

Mason Remey left Haifa and returned to the United States in the spring of
1960. From there he addressed a series of "Three Appeals Made to the Hands
of the Faith", hoping to accomplish in writing what he had been unable to
accomplish verbally. These fervent appeals met with no response. He then
realized that, for the sake of the Faith, he had no choice and could remain
silent no longer. The time was overdue when the Baha'is would have to
realize the awful truth of the betrayal of the Will and Testament of
'Abdu'l-Baha by these Hands and at the same time learn that this Divine
Charter had remained inviolate through his accession to the Guardianship of
the Faith coincident with the passing of Shoghi Effendi. He accordingly
chose the propitious moment when the Baha'is of the United States were
assembled at their annual convention in Wilmette, Illinois at Ridvan 1960
(the site of the Mother Temple of the West and their national administrative
headquarters) to issue his Proclamation through that convention to the
Baha'is of the World. These convention attendees not only rejected it out of
hand but made sure that the Proclamation would be distributed no further.
The Hands, to whom the second Guardian had also addressed a copy,
immediately initiated a slanderous campaign against him and induced the
Baha'i Administrative Institutions which had by this time been conditioned
to accepting the Haifa organization of the Hands as their provisional Center
of the Cause to join them in opposition to him. Little wonder, then, that
the great mass of the believers remain completely ignorant of the contents
of this historic Proclamation to this day. [JBM]

Michael,

I agree! Mason Remey's actions after the death of Shoghi Effendi were
quite the opposite of someone who was seeking power and personal
glorification. He did everything he could to work with the Hands, to
go along with them, and not to betray their confidence or cause
disunity. However, only after years of trying to get the Hands to see
the truth and to step back from the violation that they had decided to
pursue, did Mason finally proclaim his guardianship. The violators, in
the meantime, had carefully and secretly planned their coup and had
consolidated their power over the Baha'i world so that Mason's
proclamation received little attention. Yet they have the audacity to
claim he was the one seeking power and at the same time to argue that
Mason somehow waived his claim to the Guardianship by his efforts to
remain united with the Hands. The actions of the violators even to
this day are shameful and deceitful, and the history is there for any
clear-sighted person to perceive.
